Domestic Abuse Charter - supporting the workforce affected by domestic abuse

It is essential that employers are knowledgeable about domestic abuse as they are ideally placed to offer key support to those experiencing it.  Delivered by Fiona Bowman, a successful businesswoman, MD of a Facilities Management Consultancy and author of 'Did I Wake You, Pet?'

From her roots in a small Scottish village, Fiona left home and went to Edinburgh to take up a place on a nursing course.  Here she met Derek and subsequently endured 10 years in a violent and abusive relationship.  With support from her employers she escaped and started a new life.  Fiona will share her views on the key role that organisations can play in supporting their workforce.

With Fiona's support, North Yorkshire County Council have developed a Domestic Abuse Charter.  Colleagues will share the approach that has been taken.

The Impact of Domestic Abuse on Children and Young People

Domestic abuse has an impact on children and young people. In order to effectively support families, professionals need to identify and understand the impact.  From her wealth of experience in working with victims, perpetrators and families, including within refuges, Donna Clark, Hub Manager at IDAS (an independent domestic abuse service) will share specific examples of impact and provide guidance and signpost to tools and interventions.
