Self-advocacy celebration

Before Covid-19, self-advocates from across North Yorkshire met up to talk about what we wanted to do to celebrate all the things we have achieved over the last couple of years. We started planning a celebration event.

Covid-19 means we have had to think of some different ways to celebrate. We came up with some great ideas.

We have got certificates and keyrings for all our self-advocacy work across North Yorkshire and for being great quiz masters at the KeyRing self-advocacy quiz.

We talked to Laura Watson about the things we are most proud of doing. Laura works at North Yorkshire County Council with Shanna, Caroline and Claire. Laura drew this amazing poster to celebrate our work and achievements.

You can see a photo of the poster below. You can also download the poster here.

We took photos of ourselves with our posters, certificates and keyrings. We made them into a video and chose some music to go with it. You can watch it below.

We recorded two episodes of the Carry On Talking Podcast. We talked about all the things we are proud of achieving through our self-advocacy meetings and our work with the North Yorkshire Learning Disability Partnership Board. There was too much to fit in one episode! You can listen to the podcast here.

We have really enjoyed our celebrations. We hope they help more people find out about our important work.
